An order is usually a directive to a county administrative officer to take or refrain from taking a specified action. For example, a board of commissioners may enter an order directing the county manager to advertise for bids for a new office building.

At various times county officials call upon the district attorney to clarify a law or request an official interpretation from the Attorney General.
